Pro-government newspaper reports: Details of the new tax package have emerged
The new tax package will be on the agenda of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM), which will begin its new legislative session on October 1. It has been learned that AKP officials have assessed the new tax package by stating, "There is no new tax package that will affect the citizens." On the other hand, the package is also expected to include topics such as employment and flexible working.
The economic administration and AKP's economic staff have begun working on the details of the new tax package.
The package, which will be among the important topics of the TBMM that will open on October 1, will include some regulations aimed at preventing the informal economy by taxing previously untaxed areas.
REGULATIONS WILL BE MADE IN SOME AREAS
According to a report by the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, it is expected that regulations will be made on topics that were not included in the first package passed before the Parliament went on recess, such as conducting real estate transactions at their actual value, increasing judicial and administrative penalties for market-disrupting actions to ensure healthier price formation in capital markets, introducing a transaction tax on stock market trades, and charging a service fee on crypto assets.
It has been learned that the details of the work to be carried out will also include provisions from the first package that were removed, regarding the direct deduction of municipal premium debts from tax revenues.
It was stated that topics such as tracking income obtained from real estate and conducting real estate transactions at their actual value will also be included in the new package.
REMOTE WORKING MODELS
The Medium-Term Program (OVP) also stated that "legislative regulations will be implemented in line with developments in new-generation working models such as remote, part-time, and temporary work, as well as platform work, while observing the needs of the business world and work-life balance."
The OVP includes a schedule stating that these regulations will be implemented in the first quarter of 2025. In this case, the law must be passed by the beginning of the year.
"THERE IS NO NEW TAX THAT WILL AFFECT THE CITIZENS"
AKP officials said, "There is no new tax that will affect the citizens. There will be no changes to either income tax or VAT rates. But there are informal areas. There will be some regulations aimed at bringing these under record. It is not just in the field of tax; there is also informality in employment. There are measures for these. There are also some exemptions. For example, there are employment supports in some areas, but you see that despite these supports, there has been no increase in employment, nor has informality been prevented. Most of these exemptions will be removed."
It is considered certain that topics such as employment and flexible working will be included in the new economic package that will come to the agenda when the Parliament opens.
WHAT DID MEHMET ŞİMŞEK SAY?
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek also said in a statement he made in recent days, "We aim to collect taxes from untaxed areas. We will bring crypto assets under the scope of taxation. In addition, we are working on the taxation of stock market gains, perhaps in the next package. No area will remain informal. All earnings will be taxed at a reasonable level. There will be no untaxed area left."
