Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş reacts sharply to the 750 TL additional credit card fee

Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş shared his assessments on current events via his frequently used social media platform and criticized the latest regulation regarding credit cards.

The "Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Certain Regulations Regarding the Defense Industry and Other Laws" has been submitted to the TBMM. The 12-article draft law contains many provisions aimed at increasing the revenues of the Defense Industry Fund. The most notable article in this regulation is the collection of an annual fee of 750 TL from credit cards with a limit of over 100 thousand liras.

Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş criticized this fee in his post on the X platform as follows:

“The government is reportedly going to collect an extra 750 TL tax from credit cards.

Is it a lie:

1. First, explode inflation by calling it the 'Nas' Economic Model. Make the currency worthless.

2. Then, issue large banknotes so people cannot use cash, and force people to rely on credit cards.

3. Then, impose an extra tax on the credit cards of the people you forced to rely on them for limits over 100 thousand TL.

Is it a lie?”
