Proposal affecting millions of retirees is in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is preparing to address its busy agenda before taking a break from the legislative year. Among the regulations expected to be discussed in the General Assembly this week is the draft law providing for an increase in the lowest pension.

If the proposal is accepted, the lowest pension, which has long been criticized by the public as a "poverty wage," will rise to 23,552 Turkish Liras starting from the July payment period.

The regulation stipulates that the increase rate will be determined based on the 17.76 percent inflation data for the first six months of the year.

Approximately 5.1 million retirees are expected to benefit from the draft law.

SOMALIA MANDATE ALSO ON THE AGENDA

Another item to be addressed by the General Assembly will be the Presidential mandate regarding the extension of the duty period of Turkish Armed Forces personnel serving in Somalia for another two years.

FRAMEWORK LAW IN THE SECOND OPENING PROCESS

One of the important topics on the political agenda is the framework law study prepared within the scope of the second opening process, which the government calls "Terror-Free Turkey."

While AKP officials state that the regulation is planned to be submitted to the Speaker of the Parliament before the TBMM goes into recess, political contacts regarding the issue are expected to continue this week.
