Public transport fare hike coming in Istanbul: Here are the proposed figures...

With the start of the new year, news of price hikes continues to arrive one after another.

The public transport fare schedule in Istanbul will be redetermined at the Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting, which was planned for December 26 but postponed to January 6.

While the current full fare is 20 liras, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) requested a 55 percent increase in the fare schedule in the initial proposal it submitted to the sub-committees.

IF THE PROPOSAL IS ACCEPTED, THE SINGLE-PASS FARE WILL RISE TO 31 LIRAS

If the proposal submitted by the IBB is accepted, the single-pass fare for public transport in Istanbul will rise to 31 liras as of January 13, 2025. If the same increase rate is applied to subscription fees, the cost of a 180-ride subscription will reach 2,433 liras.

A 30 PERCENT HIKE IS EXPECTED

The public transport fare schedule, which was last increased in August, is projected to see a 30 percent hike as of January. If the increase rate in the current tariffs is 30 percent, the cost of a single pass with an Istanbulkart will rise to 26 liras.
