Renovated Bolu Mountain Tunnel to reopen

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that work has been completed on the 23-kilometer section of the Anatolian Motorway, which provides transport between Istanbul and Ankara, specifically on the Bolu Mountain Pass in the direction of Ankara, which had been closed to traffic on September 25.

Uraloğlu will conduct on-site inspections at the Bolu Mountain pass of the Anatolian Motorway today, after which the road will be opened to vehicle traffic.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that work was carried out uninterruptedly on the 23-kilometer section, which includes the Bolu Tunnel located between the Kaynaşlı and Abant junctions, and said, "On the platform providing access in the Ankara direction of the motorway, the tunnel portal was extended by 90 meters as a steel construction at the tunnel entrance, increasing the total length of the tunnel from 3,025 meters to 3,115 meters."

STRENGTHENED AGAINST EARTHQUAKES

Uraloğlu said, "Five expansion joints, specially designed with fuse boxes against earthquakes, were replaced on three viaducts. Liquid membrane and mastic asphalt applications were made over the joints to prepare them for stone mastic asphalt. Superstructure repair works were carried out to eliminate rutting in the heavy vehicle lane between the viaducts. At the same time, the concrete barriers in the median were renewed along a 3-kilometer stretch, and we plan to open the road, which we previously announced would open to traffic on November 9, 2023, on Tuesday, November 7, by completing all works."
