A significant change has occurred in the social security system that directly affects retirement calculations. The system that has been in place for many years, which allowed insured individuals to gain advantages through status changes in the final years before retirement, has ended for those insured after October 2008. Social security expert İsa Karakaş stated that for those who were first insured after this date, it is no longer the "last 7 years" but the entire working life that is taken into account for retirement.

Emphasizing that even though the SGK brought SSK, Bağ-Kur, and the Pension Fund (Emekli Sandığı) under one roof, retirement conditions are still determined according to different rules, Karakaş stated that the public's expectations from the system have not changed. Reminding that in the current practice, the conditions under which employees in different statuses will retire are determined according to the last 7 years of actual service, Karakaş made the following assessment:

"The formula is clear: You retire from the status in which you paid the most premiums (at least 1,260 days) within the last 7 years (2,520 days).

Example: A Bağ-Kur member who has spent their life as a tradesperson and has a registration date as of 01.05.2007 can escape the heavy conditions of Bağ-Kur and retire from the advantageous world of SSK if they complete their last 3.5 years (1,260 days) as an SSK employee.

The real news starts here: For those who were first insured on or after October 2008, the "last 1,260 days" rule has been completely shelved. In the new system, it is not the "last 7 years" but the "entire working life" that is put on the table.

The Assessment Has Changed: The SGK no longer looks at the final years. Whichever status the majority of your total working period belongs to, your retirement conditions are determined accordingly.

Heavy Bill: A new-generation insured person who has worked as a Bağ-Kur member for 23 years and spent the last 7 years as an SSK employee will not be able to retire from SSK as in the old system. The SGK will tell them, 'Your majority is Bağ-Kur, therefore you will complete 9,000 days.'"

With this change, while the effect of short-term moves that provided status advantages in retirement has been eliminated, especially for those insured after October 2008, longer premium periods and heavier retirement conditions have come to the fore for insured individuals with Bağ-Kur-weighted work history.
