Revenue Administration provides figure for international departure fee: 'Implement regular annual hikes'

The Revenue Administration (GİB), which operates under the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, included notable proposals and estimates regarding the new tax package in its '2024 legislative work presentation' document dated May 24, 2024. 

According to a report in Sözcü, the presentation on the new tax package, which the government is expected to send to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) soon, proposes increasing the current international departure fee of 150 TL to 3,000 TL. 

Under the sub-heading "proposed regulation" in the presentation, it was stated: "It is proposed that the fee amount collected per departure from Republic of Turkey citizens traveling abroad be set at 3,000 TL, that the fee be increased annually by the revaluation rate, and that the authority granted to the President be regulated accordingly."

In the "impact analysis" section of the proposal, it was noted that 8 million 743 thousand 760 people traveled abroad by paying the fee in 2023, and it was stated: "Assuming that the same number of people will travel abroad by paying the fee in 2024, the 6-month revenue impact is calculated to be 12.5 billion TL."

IT HAD BEEN STATED THAT THE HIKE AMOUNT WAS NOT FINALIZED

This proposed regulation is expected to be included in the tax regulation package to be submitted to the TBMM after the Eid al-Adha holiday. According to Bloomberg, there had previously been reports that the departure fee would be increased from 150 TL to 1,500 TL. However, sources from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance stated that the amount of the hike to be applied to the departure fee had not yet been finalized.
