Rise in inflation hits Ramadan food parcels: Number of products reduced

With a short time left until the month of Ramadan, the prices of Ramadan food parcels have increased along with the rising cost of living. A Ramadan parcel containing 13 products has seen a full 65.6 percent price hike compared to last year.

Rising inflation in Turkey has also affected the food parcels offered at affordable prices during Ramadan. Ahead of Ramadan, which will begin on March 1, a 13-item Ramadan parcel that could be purchased for 299 TL in 2024 will be sold for 494 TL this year, representing a 65.6 percent increase. Citizens are planning how to manage their Ramadan shopping, considering this increase and the missing items in their baskets.

5 PRODUCTS REMOVED FROM THE BASKET

In 2024, at one of the chain markets preferred for being cheap, 299 TL was paid for 830 grams of tomato paste, half a kilo of tea, 1 liter of sunflower oil, 1 kilo of flour, 150 grams of pudding, 80 grams of instant soup, 500 grams of pasta, 1 kilo of rice, 1 kilo of red lentils, 1 kilo of bulgur for pilaf, 750 grams of salt, 1 kilo of sugar cubes, and 400 grams of olives.

Before the month of Ramadan, a shopping trip was made for the products in the same parcel at one of the chain markets preferred for being cheap. Accordingly, the total price of only 830 grams of tomato paste, 500 grams of tea, 1 liter of sunflower oil, 80 grams of instant soup, 500 grams of pasta, 1000 grams of rice, 1000 grams of red lentils, and 1000 grams of bulgur for pilaf found in the Ramadan parcel was 325 TL and 10 Kuruş. Citizens can only buy eight products for 25 lira more than the fee they paid for the 13-item Ramadan parcel in 2024. When all the products in the 13-item Ramadan parcel are taken into account, it was calculated that the Ramadan parcel, which cost 299 TL in 2024, has also increased in price by 65.6 percent.
