SCT increase rate for fuel in 2025 announced: Mehmet Şimşek says, 'We are waiving 12 billion liras in tax'
With a Presidential Decree, the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) increase rate for fuel products in the new year has been set at 6 percent. The decision was published in the Official Gazette. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek commented, "With this regulation, which supports price stability to protect the purchasing power of our citizens, ensure sustainable growth, and achieve permanent prosperity, we are waiving approximately 12 billion liras in tax."
With a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette and entered into force, the SCT increase rate to be applied to fuel products in the new year has been determined.
Every year in January and July, the SCT amounts for fuel and similar petroleum products are updated based on the change rate in the domestic producer price index (D-PPI) announced by TURKSTAT over the last 6 months.
With the decision, the SCT increase to be made on fuel products was limited. Accordingly, the SCT applied to fuel products will increase by 6 percent.
The SCT increase is expected to affect prices by around 1 percent.
"MONETARY AND FISCAL POLICY IN COORDINATION"
Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, in his assessment of the matter, pointed out that as a government, they are conducting monetary and fiscal policies in coordination, stating, "By limiting the tax increase on fuel products, we are providing strong support to monetary policy. This support will contribute positively to the disinflation process. With our President's Decree, we have limited the increase in the SCT amount on fuel and natural gas products, which concern all parties, from the fuel used by farmers and transporters to the petroleum products used by industrialists and the natural gas used by households."
ŞİMŞEK: WE ARE WAIVING 12 BILLION LIRAS IN TAX
Pointing out that the D-PPI rate was 7.12 percent in the July-November period of this year, Şimşek noted the following:
"The SCT amounts were going to be updated by adding the increase that would occur in December. With the decision we made, we implemented an increase even lower than the 5-month realization. With this regulation, which supports price stability to protect the purchasing power of our citizens, ensure sustainable growth, and achieve permanent prosperity, we are waiving approximately 12 billion liras in tax."
AA ANNOUNCED THE NEWS AS "THE STATE WAIVED ITS CLAIM"
Anadolu Agency (AA) announced the news in question with the headline "The state waived a 12 billion lira claim". The report included the statements, "While the SCT increase rate to be made on fuel products in the new year was limited to 6 percent with the Presidential Decree, the state thus waived a 12 billion lira claim."
