SCT regulation on diesel in the Official Gazette: Gradual increase to begin in September
With the decision published in the Official Gazette, the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) on diesel will be applied at zero until the end of August; it will increase by 3 liras each month from September to December.
A new regulation regarding the special consumption tax (SCT) levied on diesel has been published in the Official Gazette.
With the Presidential Decree, the application of SCT on diesel has been made gradual, and diesel-type fuels have been removed from the scope of the sliding-scale (eşel mobil) system.
According to the decision, the SCT levied on diesel will be applied at zero for the remainder of August.
Starting from September, there will be an increase of 3 liras each month until the end of the year.
| Period | SCT to be applied on diesel |
|---|---|
| Remainder of August 2026 | 0 liras |
| September 2026 | 3 liras |
| October 2026 | 6 liras |
| November 2026 | 9 liras |
| December 2026 | 12 liras |
| From January 1, 2027 | 13.9006 liras |
Within the scope of the regulation, the SCT amount on diesel will be 13.9006 liras as of January 1, 2027. Thus, the tax amount on diesel will be raised to the level prior to the sliding-scale application.
With the decision, no changes were made to the existing sliding-scale system application for gasoline and LPG-type goods.
In the event of an increase in domestic refinery prices for these products, the rate at which increases are covered by the SCT will be applied at 25 percent until September 30.
In the event of a decrease in domestic refinery prices, the SCT will continue to be increased by the amount of the discount. The sliding-scale system will be completely abolished as of October 1, and a transition to free-market pricing will be made.
