Şenol Babuşcu asks after bridge and highway price hikes: 'If the inflation target is 38 percent...'
The former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank, Şenol Babuşcu, reacted to the price hikes on bridges and highways on his social media account, questioning them in light of the 'inflation target'.
Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Fatih Karahan had announced during the presentation of the second inflation report of 2024 that they had increased the year-end inflation target by 2 points to 38 percent.
While economists have expressed their reactions by commenting that it would be difficult to meet this announced target, former Ziraat Bank Deputy General Manager Şenol Babuşcu stated in his latest post that the target announced by Karahan has been rendered void by the price hikes on bridges and highways.
With the increase expected to take effect as of May 15, a 60 percent price hike has been applied to bridges and highways.
Babuşcu criticized the year-end inflation target announced by Central Bank Governor Karahan based on the amount of the price hike.
Former Ziraat Bank Deputy General Manager Şenol Babuşcu used the following expressions in his post:
"If the inflation target is 38%, why a 60% hike on bridges and highways..."
