Striking criticism from Şeref Oğuz on the government's public austerity method: 'It wouldn't even cover the valet fees'

Economist Şeref Oğuz stated that the economic management will announce a very comprehensive anti-inflationary package by the end of May. Recalling the 500 vehicles sold, Oğuz said, "What happens if you sell 500 vehicles? It wouldn't even cover their valet fees. The real big fish is still in the barn."

Striking criticism from Şeref Oğuz on the government's public austerity method: 'It wouldn't even cover the valet fees'

Economist Şeref Oğuz said that the government is working on a very comprehensive anti-inflationary package and that it will be announced by the end of May.

In a statement to ekonomim.com, Oğuz shared the inside information he received. Oğuz said, "A very comprehensive anti-inflationary package is coming. It might not even take until the end of May. I think it will be a more comprehensive program than the 'Total Fight Against Inflation Program' launched by Berat Albayrak in 2018. But this time, it will be a package that starts with public austerity."

SYMBOLIC SALE: 500 VEHICLES

Evaluating the recent sale of 500 vehicles within the scope of public austerity, Şeref Oğuz continued his words as follows:

"The sale of 500 vehicles was announced symbolically the other day. Can this be done by selling 500 vehicles? If you sell 500 of the 115 thousand public vehicles, it wouldn't even cover their valet fees! Even if you sold all 115 thousand public vehicles, you would only generate 6-6.5 billion dollars in revenue. The external debt principal and interest payment we need just this year is 226 billion dollars."

ON INSIDE INFORMATION: "THE REAL BIG FISH IS IN THE BARN"

Explaining the inside information regarding the savings to be included in the package by saying "The real big fish is in the barn," Oğuz spoke as follows:

"There is also a situation where the public sector is moving from rented buildings to its old buildings. But the main issue is this; tax exemptions are being removed. The flow of money to zombie companies will be stopped. The situation of waiving taxes will be intervened in. This year, the state waived 1.5 trillion liras in taxes. It is not very difficult to reach which companies these are; they are everywhere. These are now being put to an end. The real source will come from here.

The real big fish is in the barn. These are the funds transferred to zombie companies, the tax debts of companies that have been wiped out, and incentives and exemptions given without any meaning. The total value of these amounts to 200-250 billion dollars. Where is the 6-6.5 billion dollars you would earn by selling 115 thousand vehicles, and where are the 200-250 billion dollars in savings you would make with the others? The real task is to implement those other savings."
