Severance pay to change in the new year

As we enter 2026, salary and compensation increases remain on the agenda for employees. The new minimum wage rate, which will come into effect in January, will play a significant role in the calculation of severance pay.

If the minimum wage is increased by 28.5 percent, the annual severance pay will rise to 33 thousand 417 liras. After stamp duty, this amount will be 33 thousand 163 liras. If the increase is 35 percent, the gross compensation will be 35 thousand 107 liras, and the net payment will be 34 thousand 841 liras.

The ceiling amount for severance pay is updated twice a year based on changes in the civil servant salary coefficient. With the regulation made in July 2025, the ceiling was set at 53 thousand 919 liras. Considering economic indicators and inflation forecasts, this ceiling is expected to rise to 64 thousand 700 liras in January 2026.

These increases will not only affect private sector employees but also civil servant salaries, pensions, and social benefits. With the raises to be implemented in the new year, it is anticipated that the income gap between the public and private sectors will decrease.

Especially long-term employees will have the opportunity to receive higher severance pay when they leave their jobs thanks to the new ceiling. This situation will lead to the formation of new financial tables for both employees and employers.
