'SGK defrauded of $200 million' claim: 'The ministry just watched'

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir alleged that four private hospitals defrauded the SGK of $200 million and stated that the relevant ministry remained merely a spectator during this process.

Republican People's Party (CHP) Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir made striking statements regarding the $200 million fraud committed against the Social Security Institution (SGK) by four private hospitals.

Drawing attention to the fraudulent activities carried out systematically since 2007, Emir claimed that the ministry played only the role of a spectator during this period.

Emir stated that the hospitals, which were also involved in the scandal known as the "Newborn Gang," caused the state millions of dollars in losses over the years by showing non-existent operations as if they had been performed. He also said that findings were reached indicating that patients' health was put at risk through unnecessary surgeries.

Within the scope of the investigation, a report prepared by the SGK chief inspector emphasized that such fraudulent activities could not have been carried out without a lack of oversight and bureaucratic support. According to BirGün's report, Emir said, "These events raise serious questions about how the state mechanism operates. The ministry did not just watch the events; it failed to intervene."
