SGK expert shares insider info on minimum wage mid-year hike: Gives a date by saying 'We received word'
Stating that he has received word that there could be a mid-year hike in the minimum wage, Chief Social Security Specialist İsa Karakaş said, "Public price hikes such as natural gas and electricity have been postponed. If these hikes are reflected to the public, a mid-year raise in the minimum wage could come around September."
While Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan has closed the door on a mid-year hike for the minimum wage, Chief Social Security Specialist İsa Karakaş has revealed insider information regarding the minimum wage.
Speaking to TGRT Haber, Karakaş stated, "While the hunger threshold is approaching 20 thousand TL, the minimum wage remaining below 17 thousand TL is contrary to the spirit and essence of the legal regulation. We are fighting inflation, but the burden of this inflation should not be placed solely on employees."
Karakaş noted that while the government and the main opposition party view a mid-year minimum wage hike positively, the economic management's stance is negative. Karakaş mentioned that public price hikes such as natural gas and electricity have been postponed.
Saying, "These hikes could be reflected after inflation is announced in June," Karakaş shared the following regarding the minimum wage:
"If these hikes are reflected to the public, a mid-year raise in the minimum wage could come around September. We have received word in this direction. Because after the raises to be given to retirees and civil servants, the rates will change, and this will be reflected in general price hikes. As insider information, we have received such reports."
