Statement from DASK regarding 'compulsory earthquake insurance'
The Natural Disaster Insurance Institution (DASK) has announced that for compulsory earthquake insurance policies with a start date of January 1, 2024, or later, coverage will increase monthly at the rate of inflation, aiming to keep the coverage of policyholders up to date.
In the statement made by DASK, it was recalled that the maximum coverage amount for compulsory earthquake insurance has been increased from 640 thousand liras to 1 million 272 thousand liras.
The statement, which noted that the square meter cost used for calculating the insurance value has increased from 3 thousand 16 liras to 6 thousand liras for reinforced concrete residences, and from 2 thousand 80 liras to 4 thousand liras for other residences, included the following expressions:
"In this direction, the coverage of policies with a start date of January 1, 2024, and later will increase monthly at the rate of inflation. In this way, it is aimed to keep our policyholders' coverage up to date. Our current policyholders can also double their coverage and benefit from inflation protection to provide greater security against a possible earthquake. To do this, it will be sufficient for them to apply to their agencies, bank branches, or insurance companies and arrange a policy addendum by paying a very low-cost additional premium. On this occasion, we call on our citizens who do not have a policy to obtain their DASK policies, and our policyholders who already have one to update their policy coverage. Let this even be the first task of the new year for all of us. Because, unfortunately, there is no compensation for the loss of life we experienced after the Kahramanmaraş earthquake, but thanks to insurance, it has been possible to replace our financial losses to some extent."
"As DASK, our goal is 100 percent insurance coverage"
In the statement, it was mentioned that DASK, which paid 35 billion liras in compensation for the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, will become capable of providing coverage for all natural disasters, especially floods, in the second half of next year, and the expression, "As DASK, our goal is 100 percent insurance coverage. In this direction, we are working tirelessly and striving to explain the importance of insurance to our citizens at every opportunity," was used.
In the statement, which noted that all citizens should place their homes under DASK protection, a call was made to renew expired policies and update coverage to have stronger financial security.
