Statement from the Revenue Administration regarding the VAT 'regulation'
The VAT rate applied to restaurants and cafes was increased from 8 percent to 10 percent, and the VAT rate applied as 18 percent was increased to 20 percent. The Revenue Administration (GİB), issuing a statement regarding the aforementioned 'regulation,' reported that there was no increase in VAT rates.
The Revenue Administration (GİB) reported that there has been no increase in VAT rates in any way with the Communiqué on Amendments to the General Application Communiqué on Value Added Tax published today.
In the press release on the GİB's website, it was recalled that a communiqué containing explanations regarding the application of VAT rates in food and beverage services was published in today's Official Gazette.
Stating that a press release was issued on April 16 regarding the communiqué, the following was noted:
"Since it has been observed that the regulation is being reflected in some media outlets as a VAT rate increase, there is a need to reiterate the matter. The communiqué was prepared to correct errors seen in practice and to prevent abuses. In essence, VAT rate increases can only be made by Presidential Decree. No VAT rate increase has been made in any way with this Communiqué."
