Statement on foreign capital from Mehmet Şimşek
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced that foreign capital inflows have exceeded expectations.
Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that capital inflows have been higher than they had anticipated.
Responding to questions from Bloomberg, Şimşek argued that the combination of sound policies and structural transformation serves as a strong narrative that has enabled the regaining of investor confidence, which in turn has helped portfolio preferences shift in favor of Turkish assets.
"WE HAVE MADE GOOD PROGRESS"
Şimşek said that Turkey is exploring ways to ease regulations regarding offshore markets and could begin with relatively long-term swaps.
“We know what needs to be done, but the timing, sequencing, and dosage have not been decided,” said Şimşek, adding, "We are still in the early stages of this process. I am not saying we have overcome all the challenges, but we have made good progress.”
