Storm blows away market stalls: Increase in fish prices

At the stalls in the Moloz area of Trabzon's Ortahisar district, anchovies are being sold for 70-100 liras per kilogram, sea bass for 140, sea bream for 175, whiting for 100, mackerel for 75, horse mackerel for 50 liras, while trout and bonito are 125 liras each, and salmon is 150 liras each.

Fisherman Emin Avcı stated that due to adverse weather conditions, less fish is arriving, and this is reflected in the prices.

Stating that prices fluctuate from day to day, Avcı said, "Citizens are currently demanding horse mackerel, which is cheap. 3-5 days ago, anchovies were being bought for 50-60 liras per kilogram. Now the weather has cooled down; when the sea water cools, fish prices will drop and fish will become more abundant. Hopefully, our hope is in that direction" he said.

ANCHOVIES ARE NOT ARRIVING YET

Süleyman Çakır, on the other hand, stated that local anchovies are arriving in small quantities, saying, "Local anchovies appeared yesterday, but they are not here today. Because they arrive in small quantities, they are expensive. The weather is windy, and they are not coming due to weather conditions. If the sea cools down, anchovies will become abundant." he said.
