Striking calculation from SGK expert: Minimum wage could be 20,000 TL

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting on December 11.

It is not yet clear what figure the negotiations will start from at the meeting, which will include representatives from the government, workers, and employers.

NOTABLE MINIMUM WAGE CALCULATION FROM SGK EXPERT

As millions of workers turn their eyes and ears to the critical meeting, Social Security Institution (SGK) expert Özgür Erdursun made a striking post regarding the 2024 minimum wage hike.

Stating that the minimum wage could be 20,000 TL, Erdursun explained step-by-step what needs to be done.

"WE CAN PULL THE MINIMUM WAGE TO THE 20,000 TL BAND"

Erdursun's words, shared from his X account, are as follows:

"The minimum wage and other wages can be increased more in the following way.

-The raise to be determined by the minimum wage commission in January should be reflected in wages,

-A flat-rate increase amount, to be determined outside of the normal raise, should be set and added to the worker's salary by the employer, and this amount should be deducted from the tax the employer will pay.

-In other words, while companies pay a portion of their profits to the state, they should also add a portion to their employees' salaries.

-In this case, the employee's wage increases more, the cost of the wage increase to the employer decreases, the state contributes to the wage, the wage increase is reflected in prices at a lower rate, and it affects inflation less.

In this case, we can pull the minimum wage to the 20,000 TL band, other wages will increase at the same rates, and workers can find some relief in this deeply felt crisis..."

ERDOĞAN GAVE THE BAD NEWS TO MINIMUM WAGE EARNERS

While the Turkish Lira has been losing value due to the high cost of living, high inflation, and exchange rates, government officials had signaled that there would be only one minimum wage hike as of 2024.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his statement to journalists upon his return from the UAE, “As you know, the minimum wage increase is once a year. This matter ends with a single raise. The primary person responsible for this is our Minister of Labor, Vedat Işıkhan. We have not let our citizens be crushed by inflation until today, and we will not let them be crushed. Our economic management has taken steps to curb inflation, and these continue. The signs are positive; we will soon see that inflation is permanently curbed. We will also consign the inflation problem to history” he said.
