Striking claim about Hafize Gaye Erkan: 'She could be dismissed before the election, names are already being discussed as replacements'

A complaint filed with CİMER by Büşra Bozkurt, who claims to have worked in the executive office of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) and alleges that she was fired by Hafize Gaye Erkan’s father, Erol Erkan, has become a major topic of discussion.

Bozkurt, who alleges that Erol Erkan was provided with an office and an official vehicle at the bank, also claimed that Erol Erkan slapped a bank employee.

While Erol Erkan has denied the allegations, it has been claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is uncomfortable with Hafize Gaye Erkan and may dismiss her before the elections.

According to a report by İrem Karataş from Cumhuriyet, former Ziraat Bank Deputy General Manager and Economist Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşcu, who noted that the allegations surfaced following the application to CİMER and that silence prevails on the side of the government and economic management, stated: “The fact that Ms. Gaye has been in the US for 20 days is also interesting. It is also being discussed that Erkan and Mehmet Şimşek met only after taking office and that there is a coldness between them. It looks like Ms. Gaye will be dismissed. I think she could be dismissed before the election.”

'NAMES ARE BEING DISCUSSED AS REPLACEMENTS!'

Stating that “Gaye Erkan’s dismissal would not have any impact on the economy or the markets. What matters is the name to be appointed in her place,” Babuşcu continued as follows:

“Rumors have started regarding this issue as well. Deputy Governors Cevdet Akçay and Hatice Karahan, who has been brought to the agenda by pro-government channels, are being discussed. Cevdet Akçay is truly worthy of this position, but I predict that Hatice Karahan will be appointed. Because politically, Akçay is not a name close to the AKP; he is an honest name who knows the Central Bank. Karahan, on the other hand, is someone who has served as an advisor to the President for years and is politically devoted to the AKP. Political preferences will come to the fore.”

"SHE WILL BE A VICTIM OF HER INEXPERIENCE"

Stating that Gaye Erkan’s CV and work experience are quite impressive, Babuşcu said: "She had two shortcomings; she did not know central banking. What is more important is that she did not know the conditions in Turkey. We see from the issues that have emerged today and the statements she has made to the public that her inexperience has been revealed. Otherwise, she is a qualified colleague whose education and career are extremely successful. I also served in the bureaucracy for many years. Experience is very important; she will be a victim of her inexperience.”
