“Sugar will maintain its important place in food security in 2024 as well”

Stating that the world is facing some difficulties in sugar beet production, where the harvest season is ongoing, Kadooğlu said, “When we consider that the annual return of biscuit-cake, sugary and cocoa products exports to Turkey is expected to exceed 3.5 billion dollars by the end of the year, it can be seen how important sugar is as a raw material in our food exports. Global sugar prices have been at a high level for some time. Because its areas of use are widespread, sugar is in high demand regardless of its price.”

“SUGAR WILL MAINTAIN ITS IMPORTANT PLACE IN FOOD SECURITY IN 2024 AS WELL”

Evaluating the climate-related problems in sugar production this year in the countries that export the most sugar in the world, Kadooğlu said, “We hear that the crops in India, the largest sugar producer, did not develop sufficiently because it spent the summer with drought problems. Problems related to El Niño continue in Thailand as well. In Brazil, another sugar giant, sugar prices have stabilized for a while due to increased production, but if oil prices rise again next year, we estimate that this will increase the demand for sugar for ethanol production. Sugar will maintain its important place in food security in 2024 as well.”

“OUR FARMERS' INTEREST IN SUGAR BEET IS HIGH THIS YEAR”

Stating that the interest of farmers in sugar beet is high this year in Turkey, where beet harvesting operations are ongoing, Kadooğlu said, “We have experienced a good harvest this year in Turkey, one of the world's largest sugar beet producers. When our farmers feel that the product they produce is valued, they embrace that product with more desire the following year. Our Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, especially our Sugar Department, guides our farmers on this issue. The Southeastern Anatolia region is a region known not only for its local desserts but also for its businesses operating in the field of biscuits-cakes, sugary and cocoa products. We are pleased with the increase in production in one of our most basic raw materials.”
