Tax base adjustment for electric cars

With a decision published in the Official Gazette yesterday, changes were made to the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) bases for electric vehicles.

Accordingly, the tax base threshold applied to electric cars with a motor power of less than 160 kilowatts and subject to a 10 percent Special Consumption Tax (SCT) has been increased from 1 million 250 thousand liras to 1 million 450 thousand liras.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE CONSUMER?

Thanks to the tax base regulation for electric vehicles, vehicles with a price including taxes of up to 1 million 914 thousand TL will remain in the 10 percent SCT bracket.

Before the regulation, vehicles with a price including SCT and VAT of over 1 million 650 thousand TL would move into the 40 percent SCT bracket, and their prices would exceed 2 million 100 thousand TL.

With the regulation, all electric vehicles with a price of up to 1 million 914 thousand TL will remain in the 10 percent SCT bracket and maintain their tax advantage.

FIVE OR SIX MORE MODELS MAY ENTER THE LIST

According to information obtained from Cardata, as of November 18, 2023, a total of 29 electric models from 16 brands selling in Turkey are in the 10 percent SCT bracket.

Among these models are important vehicles such as the Togg T10X, BYD Atto 3, Renault Megane E-Tech, MG 4, Jeep Avenger, and Peugeot e-2008.

It has been learned that five or six more models could enter the list following the regulation.
