Tax changes reach the disabled: Right to SCT-free vehicle purchase to be abolished

Details regarding the content of the new tax package prepared by the AKP government continue to emerge.

It has been learned that the package includes a provision that foresees the cancellation of the right to purchase vehicles without SCT (Special Consumption Tax) currently provided to disabled individuals. Accordingly, the practice of SCT-free vehicle purchases for the disabled will be completely abolished.

According to a report by Erdoğan Süzer from Sözcü newspaper, disabled individuals wishing to purchase a vehicle will apply to the Ministry of Family and Social Services instead of the Revenue Administration. Vehicle purchase support will be provided to those who can document that they are in extreme poverty.

However, because they have purchased a vehicle, the impoverished disabled individual's other forms of aid will be cut.

TWO ALTERNATIVES EXIST

The tax package that the government will bring to Parliament includes a provision with two alternatives aimed at restricting the purchase of SCT-free vehicles by the disabled. The first alternative included provisions such as reducing the right to purchase a disabled vehicle from 10 years to 1, collecting all taxes from heirs after the death of the disabled individual, and taking half of the revaluation rate into account when determining the limit for disabled vehicles.

According to the second alternative, the right of disabled individuals to purchase vehicles without SCT will be completely abolished. The Ministry of Family and Social Services will provide a certain amount of cash support to disabled individuals, taking into account their income status and the prices of domestic vehicles. Since those who benefit from one type of social support lose their other benefits, impoverished disabled individuals will never be able to see a vehicle again.
