Tax was cut by 50 percent: Warning on games of chance from Özgür Demirtaş

Issuing warnings to citizens regarding games of chance on X, finance expert Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş said, ''The price of the ticket is much higher than the expected return of the bet you are playing.''

Demirtaş's statement is as follows:

''The entry ticket price for games of chance is much higher than the expected return of the bet you are playing. That is why you lose when you gamble. That is why you should not play games of chance. Spend your money on more productive things.''

Demirtaş had previously stated on his social media account, ''Do not engage in games of chance, betting, or high-leverage trading. Do not even go near them. Trust me, do not do it…''

TAXES WERE REDUCED BY 50 PERCENT

According to the Presidential decree on the matter published in the Official Gazette on December 28, 2023, the tax rates in question were reduced; from 10 percent to 5 percent for mutual betting based on sports competitions, from 14 percent to 7 percent for horse racing, and from 20 percent to 10 percent for other games of chance.
