Taxi drivers in Istanbul demand another fare hike: Eyüp Aksu announces the rate

Taxi drivers operating in Istanbul have applied to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) for an increase in taximeter fares, citing rising costs.

Taxi drivers in Istanbul have requested a hike in taxi fare tariffs due to increasing expenses. Speaking to TELE1, Eyüp Aksu, President of the Istanbul Taxi Drivers Chamber of Tradesmen, stated that they have requested a 65 percent increase in taximeter tariffs due to hikes in overhead costs. Aksu said, "Routine price increases are made for public transport vehicles, taxis, minibuses, and shuttles at the beginning of the year. We have submitted our request in advance for this reason."

With the most recent hikes, the short-distance fare for yellow taxis was set at 70 TL, the opening fee at 19.17 TL, and the per-kilometer rate at 13.75 TL.
