Earthquake statement from TESK President Palandöken: 'Significant loss of workforce experienced'

Bendevi Palandöken, President of the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK), pointed out that as a result of the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes that occurred on February 6, businesses experienced a significant loss of workforce in addition to physical damage.

Providing information regarding the ongoing efforts, Palandöken stated the following:

“The development of on-the-job training opportunities to ensure children grow up safe, healthy, and educated, the prevention of child labor, the expansion of the program to wider segments, and the impact of the earthquake on tradesmen and on-the-job training are being addressed. According to the results that emerged within this scope, businesses in the earthquake zone suffered significant workforce losses in addition to heavy physical damage. Especially in regions where the destruction was severe, a large portion of the employees passed away, while others were unable to return to their jobs due to disabilities, migration, or psychological trauma. For this reason, it is of great importance that these losses be compensated as soon as possible. The support needed by businesses varies according to the damage status of the region. The differing effects of the earthquake reveal the necessity of a multidimensional approach that takes into account both direct and indirect effects when preparing support packages.”
