The 3-digit era begins in fuel: Stations ask EMRA about prices that don't fit on signs
Following the rise of diesel prices above 100 TL, the issue of three-digit figures on fuel station price signs has come to the fore. Some dealers, unable to display the new prices on their signs, sought guidance from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) regarding the use of a single decimal place.
With the midnight price hike on diesel, the 100 TL threshold per liter has been exceeded. The emergence of three-digit figures in fuel prices has also been reflected on price signs at stations.
Work on signs at some fuel stations was captured on camera by citizens.
Journalist Olcay Aydilek reported in a post on his social media account that dealers had applied to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) before diesel prices reached 100 TL.
“Regarding the sign, digit adjustment... Dealers asked EMRA before diesel reached 100 TL. EMRA stated that there is no objection to using a single decimal place. Attention was drawn to the importance of consistency between the advertised price, the pump price, and the price reported to EMRA. The price must be understandable.”

TECHNICAL LIMITS ON SIGNS COME TO THE FORE
On a live broadcast on Halk TV, Ebru Baki stated that as of 12:00, signs at some stations began to change, but updates could not be made in the same way at every location.

According to information shared during the broadcast, while some signs were able to display the diesel price exceeding 100 TL, the diesel price was missing from the signs at some locations. The reason cited for this was that some screens could not accommodate the three-digit price and the total number of digits.

It was stated that some stations used temporary solutions such as sticking paper onto the price section, writing the price by hand, or removing the cent digit. It was noted that such practices were observed at stations where the system was not updated or where the sign could not be adjusted to the new prices.
