The counterfeit dollar crisis continues! With neither banks nor exchange offices finding a solution, opportunists have taken action
In recent months, the circulation of counterfeit dollars caused a crisis involving 50 and 100 dollar bills. Updates were implemented at banks and exchange offices to stop the acceptance of these notes, but the problem persists. Here are the details...
Turkey faced a major problem with the introduction of counterfeit 50 and 100 dollar bills into the market. These counterfeit notes, which are nearly identical to the genuine ones, created a crisis in the market as they passed through ATMs and went undetected at exchange offices.
ATMs and exchange offices had stopped accepting 50 and 100 dollar bills until the issue could be resolved. Despite the regulations put in place to address the problem, citizens continue to face difficulties.
ATMS ARE NOT ACCEPTING THEM
According to a report by Milliyet, While 50 dollar bills can be found in the Grand Bazaar with some difficulty, ATMs still do not accept them. Meanwhile, exchange offices have begun to turn the crisis into an opportunity by charging commissions.
A shopkeeper who owns an exchange office said, "Some continue to take advantage of this crisis. For 100 dollars, there is a commission structure; they deduct up to a maximum of 3 percent. The money is then sent abroad. An opportunity has arisen for commission agents, but this situation should not be allowed to drag on any longer."
