The danger awaiting 2.5 million retirees!

As millions of retirees struggle to make ends meet with salaries below the hunger threshold, all eyes are on the June inflation figures. These figures, which will be announced on July 3, will determine the salary increase rates for retirees and civil servants.

According to Social Security Institution (SGK) legislation, raises can only be applied to the base salaries of retirees. According to a report by Korkusuz, for retirees whose base salary is below 10 thousand liras and who receive 14 thousand 469 liras with treasury support, a legal regulation must be passed in Parliament for them to receive a raise in July.

However, the fact that Parliament is set to go on recess on July 1 makes it difficult for this regulation to be enacted in time. If the deputies do not postpone their vacation plans, approximately 2.5 million retirees will not receive a raise in July. This situation has created great anxiety among retirees.
