The long-awaited statement has finally arrived: SGK responds to claims of pension adjustments

In recent months, newspapers close to the government have featured reports suggesting that the Ministry of Labor and Social Security has taken action to resolve imbalances between pension payments. These claims brought with them the expectation that a comprehensive change would be made to the system.

According to the information put forward, it was stated that a new regulation preparation had been initiated due to the number of people receiving the lowest pension approaching 5 million and the gap between those who pay high premiums and those who pay low premiums gradually narrowing.

DEBATES ON PENSION IMBALANCE

In the pension system, the fact that those who pay more premiums and those who pay fewer premiums receive similar salaries has been a subject of criticism, and it was claimed that the government was working on a new formula as this situation increased. In this context, it was alleged that a commission had been established within the ministry and that the work could be completed by July.

REMARKABLE RESPONSE FROM SGK

The response given by the General Directorate of Pension Services of the Social Security Institution (SGK) to an application file examined by the Ombudsman Institution (KDK) revealed a different picture.

In the case subject to the application, a citizen applied to the KDK, stating that they could not retire in 2024 because they did not meet the age requirement and that there was a possibility of receiving a lower pension in subsequent years. Upon this, opinions were requested from both the SGK and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

According to the report in Birgün, the response provided by the SGK stated that no work is being carried out to resolve the differences between pension payments.
