The unemployment crisis is deepening: They have been searching for 1 year!

According to İŞKUR data, the number of unemployed people registered with the agency reached 2 million 476 thousand.

While the number of registered unemployed decreased by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, 21 percent of the registered unemployed consisted of young people in the 25-29 age group.

According to the report by Havva Gümüşkaya from BirGün; despite the decrease in the number of registered unemployed, the waiting periods for jobs at the agency are lengthening. The number of long-term unemployed registered with İŞKUR increased by over 11 percent compared to February of last year, reaching 642 thousand. Among every 100 people who have been waiting for a job for more than a year, 22 are in the 25-29 age group.

When the age range is expanded, young people in the 25-34 age group make up 36 percent of the long-term unemployed.

RETIREES ARE ALSO IN THE QUEUE

Retirees who cannot make ends meet with pension payments, which are described as starvation wages, have been forced to continue working. This has led citizens who have reached retirement age to join the queue at İŞKUR. While the number of unemployed people aged 60 and over registered with the agency reached 28 thousand, 6 thousand 500 people in this age group have been at the door of İŞKUR for more than a year. In the same period last year, the number of unemployed people aged 60 and over registered with İŞKUR was 21 thousand 968.

Due to the tightening of conditions for benefiting from unemployment benefits and the use of unemployment insurance funds for purposes other than their intended use, the vast majority of the unemployed cannot benefit from unemployment benefits. As of January, the number of applicants for unemployment benefits was 151 thousand 577, while only 77 thousand 952 people were able to benefit from unemployment benefits.
