They pointed to that figure: MÜSİAD and ASKON's minimum wage proposal revealed

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission will hold its first meeting on December 11. Millions have turned their eyes to the rate of the upcoming raise.

While figures regarding the minimum wage are being discussed behind the scenes, MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı and ASKON President Orhan Aydın have announced their expectations for the new minimum wage.

Independent Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) President Mahmut Asmalı stated that their fundamental principle regarding minimum wage policy is that the labor of no worker who puts in effort should be wasted, and that all citizens should reach a wage level where they can lead a dignified life.

Asmalı stated that while determining the minimum wage increase rate, not only the inflation rate but also the GDP growth rate should be taken into account, and noted the following:

"In our proposed formula, the minimum wage increase rate is determined by adding the economic growth rate of the last 6 months to the inflation rate of the past 6 months. Thus, it will be ensured that our employees' labor is not crushed under inflation on one hand, and that they receive a share of the national income growth on the other.

This formula will reduce uncertainties in determining the minimum wage and allow the real sector to perform healthier pricing, while protecting the purchasing power of employees and preventing a potential deterioration in income distribution."

"INFLATION" CALL FOR THE INCREASE TO BE MEANINGFUL 

Anatolian Lions Businessmen Association (ASKON) President Orhan Aydın stated that wage earners must be protected against inflation, and in this context, the inflation rate plus a welfare share should be given to employees.

Aydın said, "For the increase in the minimum wage to be meaningful, inflation must be curbed. Under current conditions, the new minimum wage should be determined by adding the inflation rate plus a welfare share, and subsequently, the uncompromising fight against inflation must continue."

Expressing that they observe with regret that there is a rapid increase in product prices with the rise of the minimum wage, Aydın assessed, "There are segments that see the minimum wage hike as an opportunity. These segments should know well that they think they are winning in the short term, but in the long term, they are undermining themselves. The loss of the citizen's purchasing power is also their own loss."

WHAT IS MÜSİAD'S PROPOSAL?

When MÜSİAD President Asmalı's statement that "it is determined by adding the economic growth rate of the last 6 months to the inflation rate of the past 6 months" is taken into account, it is notable that with a 6-month inflation rate of 33.96 percent and the addition of the last 6 months' economic growth rate, this figure reaches 43.76 percent.

Calculated with this rate, the figure of 16 thousand 391 TL emerges.
