They were producing wafer halva: Famous food company declares concordat
Turkey's well-known wafer halva producer, Şükreden Gıda, has declared a concordat due to financial difficulties and has been granted one-year bankruptcy protection by the court.
Under the impact of economic difficulties, Şükreden Gıda, the producer of wafer halva—a treat especially loved by children—is seeking a way out of its financial bottleneck. The company, known for its 'Belkos' brand, filed for a concordat with the Istanbul Anadolu 1st Commercial Court of First Instance, and the court has granted the company one year of definitive bankruptcy protection.
The court has appointed a two-person committee of concordat commissioners to closely monitor the company's financial situation. During this process, it was decided that the company's financial structure would be examined in detail and a final report would be submitted before the critical hearing to be held one year later.
The concordat case was requested by Fiskobirlik. According to information on Şükreden Gıda's website, the firm began operations in the 1980s with the production of wafer halva and over time added brittle, cezerye, and bar-type products to its product range. This wide product range of the company has gained popularity among consumers over the years.
