Those who didn't pay couldn't sell their vehicles! Revenue generated from the additional Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) revealed

The government mandated through a legal regulation that a one-time additional Motor Vehicle Tax (MTV) be collected this year, at double the standard rate, citing the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. A total revenue of 30 billion Turkish Lira was targeted from the additional MTV in 2 installments.

It was stated that those who did not pay the additional MTV would not be able to sell their vehicles, have them inspected, withdraw them from traffic, or even take them abroad.

The regulation was taken to the Constitutional Court (AYM) by the Republican People's Party (CHP). The Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the request for annulment. 

TOTAL COLLECTION EXCEEDED 27 BILLION TL

Halk TV columnist Olcay Aydilek stated in his article; "The payment period for the first installment of the additional MTV expired on September 6. It was announced that during this period, 13 billion 157 million 597 thousand 71 Turkish Lira in additional MTV was paid for 9 million 919 thousand 966 vehicles. 87 percent of the expected collection was realized."

Aydilek also reported the following:

The period granted for the second installment of the additional MTV also expired last week, on November 30.

The total collection from the additional MTV reached 27.1 billion TL. Over 90 percent of the projected amount was exceeded. Sources reminded that if the additional MTV is not paid on time, vehicle owners will pay a monthly late interest of 3.5 percent, and stated that the collection amount is expected to reach 28-29 billion TL by the end of the year.

Taxes and relentless price hikes left their mark on 2023. We have not reached the end of this heavy and destructive process. This wave will continue in 2024, especially after the local elections.
