Three-digit era begins for diesel: Price per liter exceeds 100 TL in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir
With the latest hikes, the price per liter of diesel has risen above 100 TL in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir; Brent crude is at the 105-dollar level.
Following the latest increases in diesel prices, the price per liter has reached three-digit levels for the first time in Turkey. While the price of a liter of diesel has exceeded 100 TL in Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, high levels in gasoline and LPG prices have also drawn attention.
The volatility in global oil markets is driving the rise in fuel prices. The resumption of mutual attacks between the US and Iran and the targeting of energy facilities in the Middle East have increased concerns regarding oil supply.
The fact that ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has come to a standstill and the decrease in oil shipments are also creating upward pressure on prices. While it is stated that Brent crude is hovering at the 105.46 dollar level, it is noted that the price was around 70 dollars before the war.
A price hike of approximately 6.5 liras was applied to diesel at midnight on September 15. Most recently, a new increase of approximately 4 liras and 60 kurus was reflected in the liter price. With these increases, diesel has crossed the 100 TL threshold in some major cities.
