Total value of checks presented to banks increased by 84 percent
In the January-February 2024 period, the total value of 3.2 million checks belonging to 386 thousand issuers presented to banks reached 1.139 trillion TL.
According to the statement made by the Banks Association of Turkey (TBB), compared to the previous year, the number of checks presented increased by 4 percent, the number of issuers (unduplicated) increased by 6 percent, and the check value increased by 84 percent.
CHECK VALUE INCREASED
In the January-February 2024 period, the total value of 36 thousand checks belonging to 6.5 thousand issuers that were found to be dishonored upon presentation to banks was 19.7 billion TL.
A total of 4.1 thousand checks worth 2 billion TL belonging to 2,451 issuers that were processed as dishonored were subsequently paid. The ratio of the value of dishonored checks to the checks presented increased compared to the previous year.
In January-February, the ratio of dishonored checks to checks presented to banks was 1.8 percent by value and 1.2 percent by number.
In the January-February 2024 period, the 5 provinces with the highest value of dishonored checks were Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Antalya, and Bursa, respectively.
