TPAO issues warning against 'misleading advertisements'

Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) General Manager Melih Han Bilgin explained the efforts they have undertaken against recent fraud attempts targeting citizens, which have even utilized the voice or image of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Pointing out that there has been an increase in attempts to victimize citizens through fraud using TPAO's name on various social media platforms under the guise of "investment opportunities," Bilgin said, "We felt compelled to convey a message within this framework. Our institution does not have any investment planning or investment work that our citizens can directly contribute to, under any circumstances. It is important that our citizens absolutely do not rely on these reports."

Emphasizing that TPAO has no work under the heading of investment opportunities and will not have any, Bilgin stated, "Therefore, we find it important that our message be conveyed to society, the public, and our citizens in order to prevent any victimization from occurring among our citizens."

50 THOUSAND DECEPTIVE ADVERTISEMENTS BLOCKED, 450 ACCOUNTS CLOSED

Stating that as a result of the work TPAO has carried out with social media platforms this year, approximately 50 thousand deceptive advertisements have been removed from social media channels, Bilgin said, "To date, we have conducted and continue to conduct proceedings with our public prosecutors regarding nearly 5,000 fake accounts in this regard. We have filed our objections to the matter through the courts and prosecutors' offices."

Bilgin stated that 450 accounts involved in fraud attempts on social media have been closed, and shared the information that 200 citizens who contacted TPAO via email were immediately informed.

Stating that they share announcements via TPAO's social media accounts and website so that citizens do not suffer harm from the aforementioned misleading accounts and advertisements, Bilgin said, "However, misleading efforts are still being carried out by directing our citizens to different accounts, to fake accounts. Unfortunately, we are watching this with sadness. Our citizens need to be very careful."
