Trade war between America and China to drive up phone prices: Price hikes are imminent
The global public is closely following the trade war that has begun between the US and China. Recent developments could also drive up phone prices. The fact that Apple manufactures its phones in China means that costs will also rise. Accordingly, the cost of an iPhone sold in the US is expected to increase by 43 percent. Samsung, which manufactures in Vietnam, will also be affected by the tariffs.
Following the reciprocal imposition of additional tariffs, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made a striking statement. It was indicated that the delisting of Chinese companies' shares from US stock exchanges is on the table.
The ongoing trade wars will also negatively affect the world's largest smartphone manufacturers. According to a Reuters analysis, the sales cost of Apple's iPhones, which produce a large portion of their output in China, will rise by 43 percent in America.
Experts state in their assessments that it is difficult to implement an increase of over 10 percent.
URGENT PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE TAKEN
It has also been alleged that Apple has taken an urgent precautionary measure to avoid the new customs duties. Reports indicate that five plane-loads of phones have been transported from China to America.
SAMSUNG ALSO FACES COST INCREASES
On the other hand, smartphone giant Samsung, which carries out a large portion of its production in Vietnam, is also facing cost increases.
US President Donald Trump had also imposed a 46 percent additional tax on Vietnam. For this reason, it is estimated that there will be cost increases reaching 20 percent for Samsung models as well.
