Trials begin at Akkuyu: Construction of the first unit nears completion
It has been announced that full-scale trials will begin at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, following the granting of the necessary authorization by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK).
Denis Sezemin, Director of Production and Construction Organization at Akkuyu Nuclear JSC, stated that they are moving into the full-scale adjustment and commissioning phases at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGS), for which the necessary authorization has been granted by the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) to bring the first reactor into operation.
Sezemin said, "This permit allows us to begin the full-scale adjustment and commissioning phases. This is a very important process before commissioning the unit. The testing of technological equipment and the results of these efforts will determine the plant's readiness for the commissioning process."
'WE ARE BEGINNING FULL-SCALE TRIALS'
Stating that construction of the first unit is nearing completion, Sezemin made the following assessment:
"With the commissioning permit, we are starting full-scale trials. A 300-ton bridge crane has been installed in the turbine building. Currently, the turbo-generator equipment is being installed. We have carried out a very important technological operation with the help of the polar crane installed in the reactor building.
Qualified personnel from Akkuyu Nuclear JSC and other stakeholders performed a test installation of the reactor internals and the reactor vessel head. After the installation, they disassembled them again. With this process, the compliance of the reactor, internal devices, and all other elements with the design documentation was verified. Thus, it was determined that the reactor is ready for the next stage, fuel loading."
Pointing out that Akkuyu NGS is the world's largest nuclear construction site, Sezemin noted that work on the other units is also proceeding according to plan.
