TÜİK accepts ENAG's data: 'Take back what was stolen from you with interest'

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), which estimates the perceived inflation rate based on questions in its Consumer Tendency Survey, the reason for the discrepancy was attributed to consumption habits and spending patterns.

According to a report by Maruf Buzcugil from the newspaper Ekonomim; TÜİK calculated that the inflation data it announced was perceived by citizens to be twice as high.

According to TÜİK's calculations, the 2023 consumer inflation rate of 64.7 percent was perceived to be around 129.4 percent.

The fact that perceived inflation is higher than measured inflation was explained by "consumers' income levels, spending patterns, and consumption habits varying from person to person, and the basket of goods and services used to determine inflation changing according to individuals."

Commenting on the issue on social media, Veysel Ulusoy, founder of the Independent Inflation Research Group (ENAG), said, "TÜİK has finally admitted that ENAG data is correct. This is a confession. Read it carefully..."

Calling on citizens to "File a lawsuit, take back what was stolen from you with interest," Ulusoy stated, "As part of the lawsuit you file, we will present all the data to the court, just as we have done before."
