The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has published its milk and poultry production data for August. The data indicated a significant annual increase in both cow milk collected by commercial dairy enterprises and chicken egg production.
Accordingly, the amount of cow milk collected by commercial dairy enterprises increased by 9.5 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 1 million 21 thousand 399 tons. In the same month of the previous year, this amount was recorded as 933 thousand 206 tons. The amount of milk collected, which was 987 thousand 644 tons in July, also rose by 3.4 percent on a monthly basis.
The increase in the amount of cow milk collected in the first eight months of the year was 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year.
DIFFERENT TRENDS IN DAIRY PRODUCTS
There was also a general increase in dairy product production in August. Compared to the same month last year, cow cheese production increased by 3.4 percent, ayran and kefir production by 0.8 percent, drinking milk production by 4.8 percent, and butter and ghee production by 7.5 percent. Yogurt production, however, declined by 0.9 percent.
In the same month, drinking milk production was calculated at 138 thousand 885 tons, yogurt production at 134 thousand 781 tons, ayran and kefir production at 99 thousand 433 tons, cow cheese production at 71 thousand 334 tons, and butter and ghee production at 8 thousand 966 tons.
In the January-August period, cow cheese production increased by 3.6 percent, ayran and kefir production by 7.6 percent, yogurt production by 7 percent, and drinking milk production by 8.2 percent. Conversely, butter and ghee production decreased by 1.1 percent in the same period.
On the poultry side, chicken egg production increased by 21.4 percent in August compared to the same month last year, reaching 2 billion 40 million 54 thousand units. While the number of slaughtered chickens increased by 1.6 percent to 128 million 675 thousand units, chicken meat production rose by 3.7 percent to 237 thousand 749 tons.
Chicken meat production declined on a monthly basis. Production, which was 251 thousand 861 tons in July, decreased by 5.6 percent in August. Chicken egg production, on the other hand, increased by 7.1 percent compared to the previous month.
In the first eight months of the year, chicken egg production rose by 18.8 percent compared to the same period last year. In the same period, a 1.4 percent increase was recorded in the number of slaughtered chickens and chicken meat production.
