TÜİK announces September unemployment data

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released the unemployment data for September 2025. Accordingly, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained stable at 8.6 percent. The number of unemployed persons increased by 12 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 75 thousand. The unemployment rate was determined to be 7.4 percent for men and 11.1 percent for women.

TÜİK announces September unemployment data

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the unemployment figures for September 2025. According to TÜİK data, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over increased by 12 thousand compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 75 thousand. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 8.6 percent. While the unemployment rate for men was 7.4 percent, it was estimated at 11.1 percent for women.

EMPLOYMENT RATE FELL TO 48.9 PERCENT

The number of employed persons decreased by 200 thousand in September, falling to 32 million 491 thousand. The employment rate declined by 0.3 percentage points to 48.9 percent. The employment rate was 66.3 percent for men and 31.8 percent for women.

The labor force also decreased by 188 thousand during the same period, falling to 35 million 566 thousand. The labor force participation rate fell by 0.3 percentage points to 53.5 percent. The labor force participation rate was recorded at 71.6 percent for men and 35.7 percent for women.

YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AT 14.9 PERCENT

The unemployment rate for the youth population aged 15-24 decreased by 0.9 percentage points compared to the previous month, falling to 14.9 percent. In this age group, the unemployment rate was calculated at 11.4 percent for men and 21.4 percent for women.

AVERAGE WORKING HOURS INCREASED

In September, the seasonally and calendar-adjusted average weekly actual working hours of those employed and at work during the reference period increased by 1 hour compared to the previous month, rising to 42.9 hours.

IDLE LABOR FORCE RATE DECLINED

The idle labor force rate, which consists of time-related underemployment, the potential labor force, and the unemployed, fell by 1.2 percentage points in September to 28.6 percent. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployment was 18.0 percent, while the combined rate of unemployment and the potential labor force was estimated at 20.5 percent.
