TÜİK issues statement on price list: We no longer calculate it
TÜİK has explained why it did not fulfill the request by DİSK to share the list of average item prices, despite a court ruling. In its statement, TÜİK declared that it no longer calculates the price list.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has issued a statement regarding the basket of goods and the list of average item prices under the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for which it was ruled against by a court for failing to publish them since June 2022.
TÜİK, which was ordered by a court to share the price list in a lawsuit filed by the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), announced that it could not comply with the court's decision because it no longer calculates the price list.
In a statement titled "Regarding the basket of goods and average item prices within the scope of CPI" released by TÜİK today, the legal process was summarized, followed by the statement: "It has been reported that it is not possible to fulfill the request for information regarding average prices at the item level, as the requested average item prices are not available because they are not calculated by our institution."
The statement further noted that DİSK had also applied to TÜİK on April 2, 2024, to request the sharing of the price list, but was informed that the request could not be met for the same reason. It was added that DİSK subsequently filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and that the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office determined there were no elements of a crime in the actions taken and definitively rejected DİSK's complaint.
