TÜRK-İŞ announces: Minimum wage falls below the hunger threshold

The hunger and poverty threshold report, published regularly every month by TÜRK-İŞ, has been updated as of January 2025. The monthly food expenditure required for a family of four living in Ankara to have a healthy and balanced diet increased by 1,048 TL compared to the previous month, rising to 22,131 TL.

The minimum wage of 22,104 TL determined for the new year has fallen below the hunger threshold as of January.

POVERTY THRESHOLD EXCEEDS 72,000 TL

According to TÜRK-İŞ data, the poverty threshold has also shown a significant increase. The total monthly expenditure required for food, clothing, housing (rent, electricity, water, fuel), transportation, education, health, and other basic needs increased by approximately 3,400 TL compared to last month, reaching 72,088 TL.

These figures reveal that the poverty threshold for a family of four is rising rapidly and that income levels remain insufficient to cover basic expenses.

COST OF LIVING FOR A SINGLE WORKER HAS ALSO INCREASED

The cost of living continues to rise not only for families of four but also for single workers. The cost of living for a single worker rose to 28,756 TL in January.

While this amount was 27,365 TL in December 2024, the increase over the last month was 1,391 TL.
