Türk-İş President Atalay rings in the new year with workers: A call for 'tax justice'

Türk-İş President Ergün Atalay, accompanied by Railway Workers' Union Sakarya Branch President Cemal Yaman, celebrated the new year with workers on the night shift at a sugar factory.

Atalay first toured the production facility and received information. Later, he went to the cafeteria, where he had a meal with the workers and celebrated the new year. Making a statement there, Atalay said, "On this New Year's Eve, people are currently celebrating, taking a vacation, resting with their mothers, fathers, and families, while my friends, our friends, are working. Who is working? Soldiers are working, police are working, security forces are working, journalists are working, the food sector is working, the service sector is working. I am their president. I usually go down into a mine on one of the nights during Ramadan. This evening, we came and had breakfast with our friends and visited the workplace."

A CALL FOR TAX JUSTICE

Touching upon tax regulations, Atalay said the following:

"I say from time to time, you can eat a strawberry, but you cannot eat steel. Food is as important as weapons; that is why the factory we are in is as important as a weapon, a cannon, or a bullet. If there is no food, there are no weapons, no cannons, no rifles. A regulation regarding taxes was made. We urgently need justice in taxation. They are obligated to take more from those who earn more and less from those who earn less. A definitive solution is needed for this."
