Turkey's e-commerce volume reaches 652.7 billion liras
According to data from the Ministry of Trade, the number of e-commerce orders increased by 20 percent compared to the same period last year, rising to 2 billion 556 million.
Turkey's electronic commerce (e-commerce) volume for the first 6 months reached 652.7 billion liras, an increase of 109.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
The "Electronic Commerce Information System (ETBİS)" data for the January-June period of this year, compiled by the Ministry of Trade, has been released.
While the ratio of e-commerce to general trade was 18.5 percent in the first 6 months of last year, this ratio increased by 3.2 percent in the same period this year to reach 19.1 percent.
In the January-June period of this year, Turkey's e-commerce volume was calculated at 652.7 billion liras, an increase of 109.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
The number of orders rose to 2 billion 556 million in the January-June period, an increase of 20 percent compared to the same period last year. Retail e-commerce volume also rose to 390 billion liras, an increase of 119 percent compared to the same period last year.
Based on payment methods, 62.7 percent of the total e-commerce volume consisted of card transactions with 409.3 billion liras, 32 percent consisted of wire transfers/EFT and other payments with 209.3 billion liras, and 5.2 percent consisted of cash on delivery with 34.1 billion liras.
The share of domestic expenditures in e-commerce rose to 92.5 percent, reaching 603.7 billion liras. Expenditures made by other countries on e-commerce sites in Turkey accounted for 4.5 percent with 29.4 billion liras, while purchases made by Turkish citizens from abroad accounted for 3 percent with 19.6 billion liras.
When e-commerce volume is evaluated by sector, white goods and small home appliances ranked first with 80.6 billion liras. This sector was followed by clothing, footwear, and accessories with 48.9 billion liras, electronics with 38.7 billion liras, and airlines with 29.3 billion liras. These were followed by the food and supermarket, travel-transportation and storage, and food and accommodation sectors.
E-commerce volume showed an increase of 145.1 percent in clothing, footwear, and accessories, 136 percent in electronics, 129.6 percent in white goods and small home appliances, 100.9 percent in accommodation, 69.4 percent in food, 82.1 percent in dining, and 66.4 percent in travel, transportation, and storage.
Of the purchases made via electronic commerce, 36.6 percent were made by citizens living in Istanbul, 8.7 percent in Ankara, and 5.9 percent in İzmir.
AVERAGE BASKET AMOUNT IS 255 LIRAS
The average basket amount in e-commerce was 255 liras for the first 6-month period of this year.
Sectorally, the average basket amount was 14 thousand 262 liras in the accommodation sector, 6 thousand 287 liras in home, garden, furniture, and decoration, 3 thousand 391 liras in airlines, 830 liras in white goods and small home appliances, and 712 liras in the clothing, footwear, and accessories sector.
While 81 percent of e-commerce expenditures were made in cash, 19 percent were made with installment payments. Looking at it sectorally, installment transactions were preferred at a rate of 77.6 percent in home and decoration, 47.9 percent in white goods, 35.4 percent in clothing, 30.7 percent in electronics, 22.6 percent in airlines, 17.4 percent in accommodation, 12.9 percent in travel, and 4.6 percent in books and magazines.
