Urgent expropriation decision for rare earth elements site in Eskişehir

An urgent expropriation decision has been made for investments aimed at bringing thorium, barite, fluorite, and rare earth elements in Eskişehir into the economy. The Presidential Decree regarding the matter was published in the Official Gazette.

The decision covers the licensed area located within the borders of the Sivrihisar and Beylikova districts of Eskişehir, which is under the authority of the Eti Maden Operations General Directorate. Certain immovable properties needed for the project and investment processes to be carried out to evaluate the underground resources in the field will be urgently expropriated by the General Directorate.

It was stated that the areas within the scope of the expropriation will be used for open-pit project sites, overburden waste dumping areas, access roads, run-of-mine ore and low-grade ore stockpile areas, tailings dams, industrial production facilities, auxiliary facilities, infrastructure facilities, and administrative building settlement areas.

Rare earth elements hold strategic importance in many fields, from high-tech products to the defense industry, and from energy technologies to electronic equipment. The decision regarding the site in Eskişehir is considered one of the administrative steps taken in line with the goal of bringing these resources into the economy.
