US import and export price indices exceeded expectations in April
In the US, the import price index recorded a monthly increase of 0.9 percent in April, while the export price index rose by 0.5 percent, both exceeding expectations.
The US Department of Labor released the import and export price index data for April.
Accordingly, the import price index increased by 0.9 percent in April compared to the previous month.
Market expectations were for the import price index to rise by 0.2 percent during this period. The import price index had increased by 0.6 percent in March.
The index also recorded a 1.1 percent increase in April compared to the same period last year.
AN INCREASE WAS EXPECTED
The export price index, on the other hand, increased by 0.5 percent on a monthly basis in April.
Expectations were for the export price index to rise by 0.4 percent. The export price index, which has shown an increase for four consecutive months, had risen by 0.1 percent in March.
The index recorded a 1 percent decline in April compared to the same month last year.
