Fees charged for mandatory vehicle inspections have been hit by a wave of price hikes over the last 6 years. The vehicle inspection fee has risen from 198 Turkish Liras to 1,821 Turkish Liras in 6 years.
The rise in mandatory vehicle inspection fees has multiplied over 6 years. The increase in vehicle inspection fees, which rose by 61 percent in 2024, has reached 818.6 percent since 2017. HIGHEST INCREASE IN 2022
The rise in vehicle inspection fees since 2017 has laid bare the exorbitant increase. The vehicle inspection fee, which was 198.24 TL in 2017, reached 226.56 TL with a 14 percent increase, 279.66 TL in 2019 with a 23 percent increase, and 342.20 TL in 2020 with a 22 percent increase. TÜVTÜRK, which was privatized in 2007 and is the only authorized institution for periodic vehicle inspection in Turkey, is frequently at the center of criticism due to the increases in fees.
In 2023, out of 11 million 23 thousand 923 vehicles that underwent exhaust emission measurement, 10 million 736 thousand 648 had positive results in their first measurement. Of the 287 thousand 275 vehicles that could not pass the exhaust inspection, 282 thousand 229 received approval upon re-inspection. The process granted for the 5 thousand 46 vehicles whose measurements failed to have the necessary repairs and maintenance performed is ongoing.
